Seek Emergency Care (A&E / 999)

  • Difficulty breathing or noisy breathing at rest
  • Unable to swallow saliva
  • Severe bleeding from ear, nose or throat that won't stop
  • Sudden severe swelling of the face, lips or throat
  • Foreign object causing breathing difficulty

  • Hearing loss lasting more than a few days
  • Persistent earache or ear discharge
  • Hoarse voice lasting more than 3 weeks
  • Unexplained neck lump
  • Recurrent tonsillitis or sore throats
  • Persistent nasal blockage on one side

Mrs Andrea Burgess, Consultant ENT Surgeon

Mrs Andrea Burgess is a Consultant ENT Surgeon with 25 years of experience caring for patients of all ages. She holds NHS positions at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust.

Mrs Burgess trained at Nottingham University Medical School and completed specialist fellowships in the USA and Australia. She is co-author of The Oxford Handbook of ENT and Head & Neck Surgery and co-founder of the Wessex Children's Airway Service.
